Weather protection on-site: plan it right from the start
When the weather matters: Why smart weather protection is essential on any construction site.
In modern timber construction, it's not just the material that defines quality – it’s also how well that material is protected from rain, snow, or even fire extinguishing water. Especially on large construction sites, weather protection is a key issue that needs to be part of the plan from day one.
The Schällenmatt project in Kriens is being built by a joint venture between Bisang Holzbau and Kost Holzbau. Project manager Peter Ammann from Bisang Holzbau knows from experience what really matters – and why Wetguard is his go-to solution.
Integrated planning
“The big challenge is making sure weather protection doesn’t slow down the construction process,” explains Ammann. “We need a solution that integrates seamlessly into the assembly process.”
That’s exactly where Wetguard comes in: The robust, easy-to-lay membrane protects reliably from both precipitation and extinguishing water – which is already a must-have in many project tenders.

Easy installation
For the Schällenmatt project, the team went all in with Wetguard – and loved how easy it was to handle. The membranes were laid using a simple layout plan. Connection points were placed on the OSB boards to avoid unnecessary overlaps or interruptions.
What mattered most: The solution had to fit into the existing process without delays. The team split the building into stages so they could cover each part with Wetguard right on time. And when that wasn’t possible, temporary roofs were used locally.
“Wetguard wasn’t just easy to plan and install – the different roll widths gave us flexibility. You can move freely across the surface without damaging anything. Super practical on site!”
Success factor: clear planning
Here’s what really made the difference: Wetguard was already defined in the tender as both extinguishing water protection and weather protection. That clarity helped avoid misunderstandings. Too often, tender documents just say “protect all components” – which leaves too much room for interpretation and makes it hard to choose the right system.
Compared to classic temporary roofs, Wetguard also has clear advantages: While temp roofs are often bulky and time-consuming to set up, Wetguard can be used precisely where needed – per square metre, with full transparency and control.
And if things get tricky? SIGA is there to help – hands-on and practical, from the planning stage all the way through the build. At Schällenmatt, SIGA’s technical experts even came on-site to solve complex connection points – quickly, efficiently, and with real expertise.
“The support was great. Someone was on site immediately, checked out the situation, and worked with the foremen to find a solution. It all worked perfectly.”
Well planned is half built
Smart weather protection doesn’t start on site – it starts in the planning. And it should be part of every tender. With Wetguard, SIGA offers a solution that fits perfectly into modern timber construction projects: robust, efficient, flexible, and easy to use.
